Private Residence Investigation
Pittsfield, MA

On December 17th of 2006 the Berkshire Paranormal group met to investigate a private residence located in Pittsfield MA. This case was referred to the BPG after the apartment’s resident contacted investigator Nick Mantello about being fearful in her own apartment after a series of events that took place. The resident stated that items inside her apartment would mysteriously move when she was not looking and she would regularly experience strange feelings. The resident stated she no longer slept in the apartment on a regular basis because of these happenings and was seeking our help.

Prior to the investigation members Josh and Steph Mantello along with Paul Oleskiewicz met the renter to speak with her about what was happening and how we could help. The apartment’s renter expressed how she was very concerned about what was happening in her apartment. She stated she would remember leaving things in one objects in one place and when she looked again it would be placed somewhere else. She also stated that once in the shower she had a feeling of some unknown presence pressing against the shower curtain. Another account given to us was that once while brushing her hair she had a brush knocked out of her hand and the hand the felt tingly. At this time we looked around the apartment and was able to see that it was quite small consisting of a living room, kitchen, bathroom, large closet, and bedroom with closet. We also learned from the renter that due to some sort of electrical problem there is no electricity in part of the kitchen and entire bedroom and bathroom. Prior to leaving the apartment we supplied the client with a copy of a house cleansing prayer to help assist her.

The team learned in the pre-investigation that half the kitchen and the entire bathroom and bedroom was completely free of electricity. In every sweep of the apartment a large EMF field was located near the entrance to the bedroom measuring 10 – 12 Milliguass.

Once in the bedroom a steady EMF field measuring anywhere from 1 to 4 Milliguass was found around the bed and the heaviest being around the foot of the bed.

EMF CONCLUSION: All of the EMF fields did not fluctuate with what is known to be consistent with paranormally related EMF fields.

The high field near the bedroom wall was especially a concern of the team and was brought to the attention of the client to have it checked out by the buildings owner.




A large quanity of pictures were taken by all investigators present.

Greg did capture 2 orbs that were slightly brighter and larger than usually occur. They were captured in the bedroom in the same area as Josh and Nick’s personal experiences. Other than that, there were very few dust orbs found. It was actually commented by all group members that it was surprising how few dust orbs there were.

PHOTOGRAPHIC CONCLUSION: The 2 orbs found by Greg are unusually bright and in the same location as some personal experiences. This leads me to believe it may be more than just dust orbs. However, orbs are still orbs and it is hard to ever say whether they are paranormally related or not.






Multiple EVP sessions were conducted by 4 team members running for at least 5 minutes each with no result.




The temperature of the apartment was at 68 degrees at the start of the investigation and climbed regularly throughout the night to a temperature of about 72 degrees. This is most likely contributed to the amount of people in the apartment moving around. No unusual fluctuations were recorded.



Approximately 45 minutes of video was recorded during the course of the investigation. The camera did on occasion have focusing problems when no one was present in the front of the camera. The occasional dust orb was also found floating across the lens of the camera.

VIDEO CONCLUSION: The camera having focusing problems may be paranormally related but could also be the result of the range finder for the camera having difficulties in dark.



DOWSING
John performed a dowsing session while in the bedroom to the apartment. The dowsing revealed that there was a spirit present in the bedroom that was afraid to move on. It also stated that the spirit was possibly one of a younger female and it was unsure if this spirit had ever lived in that building. Other investigators had the impression that a small female was also present in the apartment.

PERSONAL EXPERIENCES
While in the bedroom doing an EVP session at the same time that John was dowsing Josh was standing in the corner of the room near the foot of the bed with his back towards the closet. Out of nowhere and for no explanation a strong feeling came over him. Described as pins and needles going up and down his arms along with the chills. This feeling was only described to John who was also in the room and occurred prior to any other investigators arriving.
Nick, while in the same room and standing in the same spot, also had the same strange feeling come over him. Nick had no prior knowledge of Josh’s personal experience in that room and so it did not influence him.
When shown a map of the apartment drawn by Josh showing where his personal experience occurred, Nick stated it was exactly the same spot.

At the present time it cannot be said that the BPG collected any solid evidence of the paranormal in the client’s residence. The dowsing and personal experiences did lean the group towards that there may be something more to look into this apartment but they cannot be scientifically backed. The 2 orbs are somewhat odd in there placement and brightness, but the BPG understands how disputed orb evidence can be.

The high EMF levels in and around the bedroom was agreed upon by all members of the team to be “not healthy” and should be checked out. Further study by the group will be done in regards to the side effects of high EMF levels and if they can possibly contribute to strange feelings by residents.

Prior to the leaving the residence a house cleansing was done by the group members using holy water and a smug stick. We informed the client to contact the BPG with any further problems.
